4 years ago today I found out I had cancer.I didn’t cry straight away, I was expecting it. My poor sister came to the hospital with me, but I wouldn’t let her into the room. She found out when the consultants office door was left open after I was taken to have a ”little chat” with the nurse, she overheard the consultant call my GP. My lovely friend, a nurse at the hospital was expecting it to be a cyst. To this day she has no idea how she drove us all home. I tried to mollify them with some humour but then I said it out loud and floored us all.
The house was so cold,we lit the fire. I wanted a drink, wanted to sleep, we hadn’t eaten all day. I went to the garage and got oven chips and beans, sat in the car and howled.Came home decided we needed ketchup???? Drove to the other garage, bought ketchup, sat in the car and howled.Came home, found gin.We picked at some food and had some, but not much gin for the shock really,we weren’t in the mood thank god. All I kept thinking was it’s f…ing christmas, I can’t ruin everyones christmas, maybe I can tell them after.We sat by the fire and howled. The next morning we started making the necessary calls, before driving to my parents. And so it began and hasn’t ended yet.
Thanks to my family and friends, everyone who has been there for me in the last 4 years. I’ll do my best to keep going. Wishing you and yours, a very Happy Christmas.
